Abstract:

a:4:{s:9:"Objective";s:335:"There is some evidence that shows Matricaria chamomile (MC) plays an important role in ischemia-reperfusion. In the present study, a rat model of torsion/detorsion to investigate the effect of hydroalcoholic extract of MC on testis tissue damage was used. In adult rat testis, the oxidative stress (OS) induced by ischemia-reperfusion.";s:19:"MaterialsAndMethods";s:913:"Twenty-eight male Wistar rats were randomly divided into 4 groups; G1, Sham procedure; G2, testicular torsion/detorsion (T/D); G3, testicular torsion/detorsion received 300 mg/kg of MC extracts 30 minutes before detorsion (T/DMC); G4, healthy rats received 300 mg/kg of MC extracts (MC). Also, the reperfusion period was 24 h. After blood sampling, oxidative stress markers, such as Superoxide dismutase (SOD), blood levels of testosterone, and anti-oxidant enzymes, such as Glutathione peroxidase (GPx) assessed by ELISA method and serum activity of malondialdehyde (MDA) were assayed by spectrophotometry. Another assessment was carried out by histomorphometry at 24 h post-procedure. The histological parameters investigated by Johnson's scores (JS) and also the seminiferous tubule diameter (STD) and the height of the germinal epithelium (HE) measured using the linear eyepiece grids on the light microscope.";s:7:"Results";s:356:"A significant change between sham and other groups was observed in histological parameters. Also, the levels of SOD, GPx, and testosterone hormone were significantly decreased in the sham group while these increased in T/DMC group. In the duration of ischemia, the MDA level increased. Treatment with MC extract decreased the MDA level in G3 and G4 groups.";s:10:"Conclusion";s:166:"The results of present demonstrated that Matricaria chamomile can be protected the testis tissue damage by suppressing superoxide production after testicular torsion.";}

Protective effects of abdominal electroacupuncture on oxidative stress and inflammation due to testis torsion/detorsion in rats.

PURPOSE To evaluate the effects of acupuncture (Ac) and electroacupuncture (EAc) on oxidative stress and inflammation in testis torsion/detorsion (T/D) model in rats. METHODS Thirty male Wistar rats were randomized into five groups. G1 Group (Sham) served as control. The remaining groups were submitted to spermatic cord torsion (720°) for 3 hours, followed by detorsion and reperfusion for 4 h...

Effect of garlic extract and N-acetylcysteine against fenvalerate-induced oxidative stress in the serum and testis tissue of rat

Background and Objective: Fenvalerate is a component of the pyrethroid pesticide induces oxidative stress. This study was done to determine the effect of garlic extract (GE) and N-acetylcysteine (NAC) against fenvalerate-induced oxidative stress in the serum and testis tissue of rat. Methods: In this experimental study, 42 Wistar rats were randomly allocated into 7 groups including: control gr...

P-6: Protective Effects of Green Tea Extract on Lead-induced Damage in Mouse Testis

Background: Lead is a heavy metal that has been known for its adverse effects on many body organs and systems and. In the present study, the protective effect of green tea (GTE) on the male reproductive system following the administration of lead (pb) was investigated. Materials and Methods: Forty male NMRI mice were divided into four groups of 10 animals each. Controls, GTE treated, pb treated...

The protective effects of Curcuma longa extract on oxidative stress markers in the liver induced by Adriamycin in rat

Introduction: The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of Curcuma longa (C. longa) extract on Adriamycin-induced hepatotoxicity in rat. Methods: Animals were divided in six groups: Control (CO), Adriamycin (ADR), Adriamycin with Vitamin C (ADR+VitC), Vitamin C (Vit C), C. longa with Adriamycin (CL+ADR) and without Adriamycin (CL-ADR). Hepatotoxicity was induced by Adriamycin 5mg/kg ...

Protective effects of melatonin on testis histology following acute torsion-detorsion in rats

BACKGROUND Testicular damage due to spermatic cord torsion may lead to infertility. It is probably because of changes in oxidative stress factors such as malondialdehyde. OBJECTIVE To investigate the protective effect of melatonin (MLT), as an antioxidant, on testicular damage induced by acute unilateral spermatic cord torsion and detorsion (T/D) in rats. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this exper...
